Dave started playing drums at 15 going to the same tutor as Mick Avery of the Kinks, In the 60s he formed a band called the Zodiacs playing venues all over the country even performing on the hit TV show: 'Ready Steady Go!' and they supported numerous bands including Cliff Bennet and the Rebel Rousers.

In 1967 the band split up with one member going to Australia and one to Canada. Dave stayed in the UK and was approached by Ray Dorset who was forming Mungo Jerry, but Dave had taken another job. However, he was 'proper chuffed' when they had their big hit: 'In the Summertime'. Dave just says: 'that's life' and he is now happy to be playing in the Beat Legends.
